Malda follows Tripura’s lead, bans Bangladeshis from hotels amid growing border tensions
Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been indicted on murder and arson charges following a deadly fire in Queens, New York. The incident, which occurred on November 23, claimed the lives of her ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs, 35, and his friend Anastasia Ettienne, 33.
According to prosecutors, the 43-year-old Fakhri deliberately set fire to the detached garage of Jacobs' home after he rejected her attempts to reconcile their relationship. The fire spread rapidly, trapping the victims inside the building and resulting in their deaths due to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing Fakhri shouting, "You’re all going to die today," before igniting the fire around 6:20 a.m. Despite efforts by Ettienne to save Jacobs, who was reportedly asleep at the time, neither could escape the flames.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz described the crime as a "malicious and calculated act," stating, "This defendant ended the lives of two people in a rage-fueled inferno. Justice demands accountability for such a heinous act."
Fakhri now faces a slew of charges, including four counts each of first-degree and second-degree murder, as well as arson. She is currently being held in custody and is due to appear in court again on December 9.
